You will be on a liquid diet for two weeks immediately post surgery. The correct consistency would be anything thin enough to drink through a straw as large as one you could obtain from McDonalds for example. The liquids can be reasonably think like a smoothie, they do not have to be think like water.  Note the big difference here.

A liquid diet is required to ensure the scar tissue is formed between the Lap Band and the stomach to consolidate its position and minimize the risk of the Lap Band slipping.

It is important to obtain enough nutrition during this time frame for wound healing plus your over all well being.  Instructions on how to be creative in liquefying meals, maintaining a variety in your liquids and how to avoid the common issues faced by many during the liquid phase, the “Gastric Band Nutrition Essential” book and the “Strangle Yourself To Health” DVD will answer all your queries.

You will also find the fluids recipes useful.
